CHRISTMAS BUREAU OF AUSTIN AND TRAVIS COUNTY

The Christmas Bureau of Austin and Travis County is a clearinghouse to match sponsors with families who need assistance for the holidays. Sponsors may choose from several giving options, including dinner only, dinner and gifts, family size, or older adults.

OPERATION BLUE SANTA

Operation Blue Santa provides new and gently-used Christmas toys, cash, and non-perishable food items for families with low income that live within Austin city limits. On the designated delivery date, someone must be home in order to receive gifts; Blue Santa will not leave the gifts if no one is home.
Dates:  Deadline to register is in November.
Eligibility: Families with low income that live inside Austin city limits
Intake procedure: Must register in person at St. John's Neighborhood Center, 7500 Blessing, Austin
Documents required: Photo ID, Proof of address (such as a utility bill) and proof of age of children (school or shot records)
Languages spoken other than English: Spanish, Vietnamese

OPERATION BROWN SANTA

The program provides assistance to families in Travis County who live outside the geographical city limits of Austin. The adults in the families apply at the area Rural Community Centers, closest to their residence, for assistance. Families will be notified if selected.
Dates: Deadline to register is December 9th.
Eligibility: Families must live outside the city of Austin in unincorporated areas of Travis County with a household at or below the minimum poverty level or have extenuating circumstances.
Intake procedure: Must register in person at Travis County Rural Center located closest to their residence. In Pflugerville this is the North East Rural Center, 15822 Foothills Farms Loop, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
Documents required: Proof of residency and photo ID

SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS CHEER 2010

Provides assistance at Christmas for families with children ages 12 and younger who are in need. Assistance may include toys and clothes for young children, and food vouchers for a family dinner.
Dates: October 25-29, 2010 (by appointment only)
Hours: Mon - Fri 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Eligibility: Families in need, with children ages 12 and younger
Intake procedure: Apply in person; families will receive a letter stating when their distribution date will begin
Documents required: Picture ID for all adults in the household, Birth Certificates for all children in household, proof of residence (utility bill), proof of monthly income and expenses.

COATS FOR KIDS

Coats For Kids distributes warm winter coats to youth in Central Texas.
Location: Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road
Hours: Saturday, December 8th from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Eligibility: Children, ages birth to 18, whose families show proof of enrollment in a government assistance program or are at or below the national poverty level. Acceptable proof includes: Enrollment in free or reduced lunch program, WIC cars, CHIP card, Medicaid card, Lonestar Debit Card, SSI card, Current pay stub.

This wonderful organization helps brighten Christmas for children who are in the state's care and have been abused. For information go to Partnerships For Children.org

CARITAS of AUSTIN

Caritas assists with housing, food and helping to find employment. The annual Christmas Tree lighting at the Texas State Capitol helps raise money for this organization. This year Caritas asks that you bring jars of Peanut Butter to help feed the children in need of food.
